Block Plan Australian Standards

- Block Plans are required where ever there is a Fire Brigade Booster Assembly Installed
- Block Plans must be permanently fixed and NOT obscured from sight.
- An Additional Block Plan must also be permanently fixed in a fire control or pump room if there is one on site.
- Block Plans must be no less than A3 in size and not more than A1 in size and have a max scale of 1:250. Multiple block plans may be required for complex sites.
- Block Plans must be made from a water fade/weather resistant & UV resistant material.
- Examples of block plan materials are Rowmark, Traffolyte, Stainless Steel or Reversed Digital printed decals on poly carbonate/ perspex or acrylic. LAMINATED PAPER IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
- Block Plans to display diagram layout of
- Protected Buildings, open yards and adjacent streets,
- Street and building names as well as landmarks for easy identification.
- Size and location of water supply/mains and street fire hydrants,
- Any valves and connections with the water supply serving the site eg domestic, processed, fire and tank fill lines.
- Location and size of on-sire fire mains and length and size of any PE underground pipework
- Location and capacity of any water storage tanks. This must be in kilolitres KL and positioned on the tank location on the drawing.
- Location of Pumps c/w pressure & flow duties (kPa & L/s)
- Location and number of each Fire Hydrant (20mm disc size)
- Location of all Booster Assemblies
- Location of all Isolating and Non-Return Valves including backflow device/s
- Any connections to other installed fire protection systems eg sprinklers, drenchers, hose reels
- Location of main electrical switchboards & substation
- Location of any LPG tanks and gas supply shutdown valve
- Location of any flammable storage areas
- Location of any fire isolated stairs, fire indicator panels, fire control centres and sprinkler alarm sets etc
North Point Symbol - Year of Installation, any major extensions and unusual features
- Name of installing/modifying contractor, designer
- System design, commissioning and water agency flow and pressure rates
- Height of the highest fire hydrant outlet above the lowest booster inlet connection.
Block plans that differ to above may only be considered by the governing Fire Authority.
Best practise is to have a draft version approved by your local Fire authority prior to placing your block plan order.
